The riders also had to cope with reduced track time, the threat of rain and failing light, which all added to the drama.

Rutter’s incredible start gave him an early advantage on the tight, winding street circuit, but Ducati-mounted World Supersport Championship rider Jessopp piled the pressure on, closing the gap as the chequered flag approached.
