A Smile, a good Shoeshine & a fresh Haircut are still the first and foremost things to consider for any social event. Especially in the Quest for love!! We all remember our first haircut in the local barber or beauty shop. Yet, not all of us may know the nerve it took to step onto a shoeshine stand and ask for a Shoeshine, especially for a Victorian era Lady!!! Barbershops & Beauty Shops all had a wonderful infusion of sexy aromas from various Hair Tonics, Shampoos, Shaving Soaps and Shoe Polish!!! The Advertising Art that was created to portray these products was amazing. Ads had to have the power to drive folks into the barber shops and give a tonic a try!! These Advertising Signs were plastered on Trolleys, Trains & Bus Depots. Store Windows showed them proudly. They were flashed on silent movie screens. In the good old days these Signs were literally everywhere. But very few original signs survived and the cost of an original vintage tin sign from the 1800’s or early 1900’s is extremely high. The turn of the 20th Century rushed in an era that boasted no television, computers or speeding cars. So getting a barber shop or beauty salon product into everyone’s hands was the job of the advertising sign. If the sign looked good then the product must make the buyer look good too was the general thought!!! Naturally everyone wanted to look their best, feel their best and be their best everyday. Advertising signs coaxed the buyer into believing they could look fabulous if they used the product!! These signs in this collection are lone survivors of the Golden Era of Personal Grooming. This collection reproduces some of the finest examples of Barber Shop and Shoeshine related advertising signs. Originals of these signs are rarely found in any condition. Many of these signs are reproduced from unique one-of-a-kind originals from a bygone era and have taken years to gather into a single collection.
