What is Vitamin D3?

Cholecalciferol can be found in the following food sources: oily fish; liver; eggs; some breakfast cereals; bread; and powdered milk.
Cholecalciferol (cholesterol) is extracted from Lanolin Alcohol; the Lanolin is sourced from wool sheared from live sheep - which is why Vitamin D3 isn't suitable for vegans.
iu stands for International Unit. This is a unit of measure based, not on weight, but potency. The iu to weight ratio varies depending on the product. So to create an easy to compare measurement this standard was introduced.

For Vitamin D3 the following conversion shows the international unit amount and the amount of micrograms this equals:

 iu mcg (µg)
 100 iu         2.5 mcg (µg)
 400iu 10 mcg (µg)
 1000iu 25 mcg (µg)
 2000iu 50 mcg (µg)
 4000iu 100 mcg (µg)

Vitamin D3 has co-factors that the body needs in order to utilize the vitamin properly. They are:
• Magnesium
• Zinc
• Vitamin K
• Boron
• a tiny amount of Vitamin A

What does Vitamin D3 do?

"Vitamin D is important for good overall health and strong and healthy bones. It’s also an important factor in making sure your muscles, heart, lungs and brain work well and that your body can fight infection.
Your body can make its own vitamin D from sunlight. You can also get Vitamin D from supplements and a very small amount comes from a few foods you eat."
Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol) regulates calcium and phosphate levels. These help to keep bones and teeth healthy. It is used extensively in skin creams.
