![]() | ![]() | ABS Plastic Colourant Melting / flow point: This masterbatch is designed for use with plastic, particularly ABS plastic (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene), but is also compatible with other forms of thermoplastic of similar melting temperature. It has similar characteristics to ABS and starts to melt and get soft from around 105°C. For it to flow, you'd need to get it to between 180 to 225°C. it starts to flow like thick melted chocolate, making it easy to mix with melted plastic. The maximum recommended temperature is 270°C after which is may start to burn and change colour. Adding colourant doesn't significantly affect the melt temperature of the plastic it is added to. Flow rate: Adding colourant significantly slows down the flow rate by anywhere from 10% to 70% especially on low pressure and auger (screw/drill type) plastic injection machines, so reduce manufacture and 3D printing speed accordingly to compensate. Switching colours may take some time as you have to push the old color out of the machine's flow channels (this takes much longer with dark colors like black). Flow rate also depends on temperature and pressure. The hotter and harder you press, the faster plastic will flow / move. The flow rate of colourant generally follows the plastic it is added to. ABS flows at ~1.5 to 3 grams per minute at 240°C when a light 10kg weight is placed on top of it (according to ATSM D1238 flow rate test), so adjust accordingly.. Density and Pellet size:
Each pellet is on average around 3mm x 3mm x 3mm (see pictures). The black pellets are round like pebbles,
the rest are cylinder shaped. Tensile Strength: Solid colourant pellets are relatively fragile, and must be mixed with plastic in order to be practically usable. The tensile strength of plastic it is added to is only slightly reduced by this colourant by the volume it is added in. In most practical cases it is less than 10%. Colour Base: These ABS
pellets are best mixed with White coloured plastic as the base main plastic component. White is
the natural colour of ABS plastic. But you can use it with other pre-coloured plastic to change their colours
further. (For example if you already have yellow plastic, you can change it to red by adding magenta colourant).
Using with clear plastic creates coloured clear plastic, Note: If you already have black plastic, adding colourant
won't change it. Packaging Method and weight: Colourant pellets are Super
Saturated. In practical use, you won't need more than 150 grams to colour a Kilogram worth of plastic to
almost any colour you want, So we sell them in packs of 240g either as individual colours or a mixture of all 4,
