The company is committed to a design approach in which the most advanced expression of international creativity is always balanced against the desires of the general public. Alessi has been described as a “Dream Factory”, which uses its products to make people’s dreams come true, providing them with the Art and Poetry that they seek.

The original pill box shaped like a horse chestnut was designed by Lorenza Bozzoli and Gabriele Chiave. It's included in the Objects-Bijoux collection. The two designers were influenced by the popular belief according which, keeping a horse chestnut in your pocket is supposed to ward off colds. The flat lid rotates on a little pivot, allowing the box to be closed with just one hand.
