Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a naturally occurring, fat soluble compound that was first discovered in 1957 by a biochemist and professor Frederick Crane.  Research was continued by Dr. Karl Folkers and others at Merck, where they identified its chemical structure among other things.  Both of these individuals are often recognized for the discovery of CoQ10, but it was Dr. Folkers who went on to pursue further research on CoQ10.  Research continued to expand across the world as more of its health benefits were discovered. 

It has been known for some time that CoQ10 plays a significant role in human health and supplementation, highlighted by its role as a very effective antioxidant.  Its benefits to the skin are relatively new knowledge.  The topical application of CoQ10 has been shown to provide antioxidant effects, soothe the skin, and may support increased collagen production and reduce the visual effects of aging.
