Metal Sign Mel's Drive-In Size: 14" X 14" Larry Grossman Licensed Collection Larry Grossman was fortunate to grow up in Los Angeles, as he has always loved hot rods, and L.A. is where it all began! Influenced by Ed “Big Daddy” Roth, he bought an airbrush at age 15 and began painting and selling wild T-shirts at car shows, thrilled to be occasionally working for one of his heroes, George Barris, “The King of the Kustomizers”. The income from this work enabled Larry in 1964 to buy his first car, a red ’29 Ford hot rod. In the Psychedelic 60’s Larry moved from L.A. to San Francisco, where he graduated from CCAC Art School, and later taught film animation. In 1981 the Disney Studios enticed Larry back to L.A. to work as a designer on “TRON”, the first computerized film. He later free-lanced for Disney, Warner Bros., and Dreamworks Studios, and also illustrated three album covers for legendary musician Frank Zappa, among others. Partly as a result of his working on TRON, Larry became enthralled with the creative potential of the computer and by the 90′s had retired his airbrush. He soon developed a unique process, combining digital airbrushing with his own photography. The results are dynamic scenes that look “real”, but which never actually occurred …except in Larry’s vivid imagination! Larry’s work has been exhibited at galleries and museums worldwide, including the famed Petersen Automotive Museum, The National Hot Rod Museum, and The National Automobile Museum, to name a few.   This metal sign measures 14 inches by 14 inches and weighs in at 2 lb(s).
