Second edition of “Espelho Lusitano…” a historical work on Portugal and its domains in America, Asia, and Africa, until the second half of the 17^th century.      

This book made part of the reading list of Colonial Brazil, as referenced in “Tinta sobre papel: Livros e leituras em Pernambuco no século XVIII” by Gilda Maria Whitaker Verr.  

The author, Antonio Veloso de Lira (1616-1691), natural of the island of Madeira, was a theologian at Salamanca and later canon of the Funchal Cathedral.

Copy bound in 18^th century full leather, spine raised in bands, gilt lettering and decor.  Binding tired.

Condition:  Work complete and in good overall condition despite text browned and with stains.  Blank leaf and some pages with pertinent manuscript entries.
