10 grams of 99+% Pure Pharmaceutical Grade Oxytetracycline HCl - Aquarium Fish Antibiotic Treatment

This listing is for ten grams of 99+% purity water-soluble Oxytetracycline HCl, in the form of a fine yellow powder. AquariCure Oxytetracycline HCl is an effective internal (mixed with food) and external (water) broad-spectrum antibiotic treatment for gram-positive and some gram-negative bacterial infections. Oxytetracycline HCl is commonly used to treat body slime and cloudy eyes, marine ulcer disease, mouth fungus, cold water disease, bacterial hemorrhagic septicemia, fin and tail rot, bacterial gill disease, dropsy or kidney bloat, open sores and loss of scales, and other ailments. Most bacterial infections in fish are caused or exacerbated by improper aquarium hygiene, so proper cleansing of the tank is necessary when infections occur.

This product comes in a sealed plastic jar, which is then sealed within a plastic pouch to ensure a longer shelf-life. Oxytetracycline HCl is less stable than other medications and will eventually break-down into undesirable chemicals when exposed to heat, light, air, and moisture, so store tightly capped in a secure and dark location below 77°F (25°C), or in a freezer (allow to return to room temperature before opening to avoid deleterious condensation from forming on the medication). Beware of suppliers offering old degraded product or claiming that the Shelf Life is longer than 2 years. Use or discard by April 15, 2019.

General directions are as follows, though researching the specific requirements or sensitivities of your particular species is crucial, as some aquatic organisms (particularly beneficial bacteria) may be intolerant of Oxytetracycline HCl. Use of a hospital tank may be helpful for preserving the beneficial flora in the primary tank (provided it is properly cleaned prior to returning the treated fish).

Water: Remove your activated charcoal/carbon filter and UV sterilizer and protect tank from sunlight prior to applying the medication. Treat water with a pre-dissolved aqueous solution of Oxytetracycline HCl at a concentration between 0.125g to 0.250g per 10 gallons (12.5mg to 25mg per gallon) depending on the severity of the problem. Repeat treatment every 48 hours (or 24 hours for severe infections) for 10 days (or until the problems are completely resolved/symptoms disappear) with a 25%-50% water change before the initial and each subsequent treatment. Discontinue if improvement isn't noticed after 5 days of treatment. Use of an accurate scale is highly recommended, but a leveled 1/4 teaspoon measure (1.25ml volume, do not confuse with tablespoon measure!) holds approximately 0.60g, so dissolving that amount in a conveniently divisible volume of water and dispensing the appropriate amount of solution can be done with acceptable accuracy without a scale. Conduct a massive water change at the conclusion of treatment prior to returning the aquarium to normal functionality and conditions.
Food: For treating infections (especially if water PH is above 8.0, which degrades Oxytetracycline HCl), thoroughly mix a leveled 1/4 teaspoon of Oxytetracycline HCl for every 2 ounces of thawed frozen fish food, then re-freeze. For dry pellets, mix 2 teaspoons of medicine with a few ounces of water and evenly mix with 1lb pellets, then fully air-dry. Feed afflicted fish every 24 hours for 10 days. Discontinue if improvement isn't noticed after 5 days.
