ZU AUDIO / MISSION-XLR [Mk.I] 5ft [1.5m]

Mk.I was in production without revision from 2010 through 2015. It is being superseded by Mission-XLR Mk.II.

Zu Mission cables are all about maximum hi-fi value and are designed to challenge the state-of-the-art but at reasonable prices. Mission-XLR are also very easy to work with. They are small, flexible, durable and have a very comfortable hand. Mission-XLR is based on the same platform as Zu's top of the line Event-XLR interconnect cable, retaining the pivotal design elements but cutting back the high cost/small return ingredients namely the very costly solid core pure meta-crystal silver. Zu Mission XLR line-level analog interconnect cables will improve the sound of your system by lowering noise, improving top to bottom resolution, and so on. But the biggest area of improvement is in stereophonic imaging—no other cable will be as convincing as Zu Mission-XLR for stereophonic magic—all save Zu Event of course.

Performance goals are realized through the correct application of Zu and Gore® cable technologies, which bond the stereo channels in the same dielectric space providing identical left/right interconnect conditions and performance, an advantage that is not possible with traditional white/red coax cables. Zu Mission also use innovative material technologies such as Teflon® (PTFE) dielectric and pure silver deposit over pure copper core for both signal and signal's mate. These are a few of the features that ensure your cables will really perform, and for decades without worry or trouble.

Zu Mission-XLR combines Zu and W.L. Gore® two-channel stereophonic differential transmission technologies and marries it with cutting edge manufacturing within a copper core/silver skin / PTFE platform. The result is two-channel stereo differential signal transmission that is virtually immune to RF and realizes reduced noise from your system, more so than any other brand of cable. Mission-XLR is specifically designed for two-channel stereo, line-level balanced differential transmission and combines the Zu/Gore™ two-channel geometry with an overall high conductance shield to ensure pristine and perfectly matched propagation channels for your sensitive line-level music signals.

REVIEW

http://www.positive-feedback.com/Issue55/zu_mission.htm

Upper tier cables can out pace the Missions in most categories, but it will require the expenditure of a serious amount of greenbacks to accomplish this. The tonal balance of the Mission wires lend it an unassuming personality that just lets the music flow through them. I find the Mission wires capable of being a reference quality component, and I plan on leaving it in my system for the time being. I thoroughly enjoy the addition of this wire to my stereo for it combines an honest discernment of a recording with a genteel personality of a well executed product.

The performance of the Mission wire package is impressive, and all three pieces performed equally well in my system. The Mission wires certainly meet all the standard parameters that hobbyists often use to judge cables. This wire has plenty of deep and tight bass, it images well, high frequency information is not ragged, and the sound stage is evenly spread out. Yet there is more to what a great set of cables should do, and that is to allow the listener to suspend disbelief, and experience the context of the musical performance. I enjoyed the expressive personality of these wires, and appreciate the ability of these cables to make that emotional connection to the music. In the end, this is what great audio products do, and the Mission wires are undeniably that. —John Hoffman / Positive Feedback

BURN-IN

Mission-XLR will require a good bit of play before it’s fully burned in, roughly 400 hours. We do not recommend any burn-in devices or special recordings. We do recommend music you enjoy, preferably upbeat full spectrum recordings: rock, roots, full orchestra, big band.... For the possible how and whys about burn-in please see our our Answers section.
