SALE PRICE $250.00!!!!!! New old stock from 1894.

Bienvenue et Bon Voyage!!! For all of you serious Louis Vuitton aficionados, comme moi, here is a very rare item. When I was in France over 12 years ago, I acquired from a rare book dealer a lot of books that were published by the Louis Vuitton company in 1894 and 1901. These books were not for sale in stores but were given as gifts to special clients and friends of the Louis Vuitton company and family. The dealer I got them from acquired them from a member of the Vuitton family. These books have been sitting on a shelf or in a box or trunk for 129 years! The book, titled LE VOYAGE, was written by Georges Vuitton, Louis' son and the one who came up with the now famous and ubiquitous LV monogram design in 1896. Written in French and never translated into English or other languages, the book is an history of travel from early times up to the late 1890s. There are over 35 engravings of period trunks and other travel accoutrements from various countries. The books I acquired were never read since the French technique of printing pages and folding them before binding, one had to cut the top edges of several groups of pages in order for the pages to be read. 10 inches by 6.5 inches.

This 1894 edition is in EXCELLENT condition.....But the 2 1892 portrait engravings of Louis and his son Georges have been extracted....The reverse sides of the 2 engravings are blank. The portrait engravings were a limited run for the 1894 first edition. The 1901 second edition therefore did not include them. The front cover is in excellent condition. The spine is excellent. The back cover has 4 small rectangular stains in the corners. The interior pages have never been cut to open and thus unread. The interior is intact with over 35 engravings of vintage luggage and other travel accoutrements. The 1894 and the 1901 editions have different title pages and both have the same text and the same engravings of vintage luggage. You can see the title page of this book in the ad has the date of 1894.

If you look at the book Louis Vuitton The Birth of Modern Luxury by Paul Gerard Pasols and published by Abrams in 2005, on page 109 through 117 there are reproduced entire pages of this 1894 Le Voyage book showing the cover and some illustrations of period luggage.

I have seen the 1894 and 1901 editions sold in Europe in the last 10 years from between 450 to 1,300 euros when one euro was worth $1.50.

SALE PRICE $250.00!!!!!!!!! And FREE insured shipping in the USA.

If you are interested, I also have a separate set of the 2 portrait engravings of Louis Vuitton and his son Georges from 1892. Please check out my EBAY STORE.

Please view the photos carefully. Please contact me before buying if you have any questions at all. Bear in mind that the paper in the paperback book is 129 years old and though never read has some surface patina and aging from environmental conditions in which the books were stored and is not as bright and mint as it was in 1894. I have sold more than 35 copies of these books over the last years on EBAY and privately to book dealers, serious collectors and other francophiles.

I have a large archives of travel related items in my private museum called The Museum of Travel Art which includes vintage Louis Vuitton trunks and cases along with  other vintage luggage by Goyard, Moynat, Aux Etats-Unis, Oshkosh, Hartmann and others. There are travel posters, hundreds of books on travel, hotel ashtrays, dishware and hotel silver service. A collection of over 50,000 different images of vintage hotel, airline and steamship luggage labels. Other paper items include vintage hotel invoices from the 20th and 19th centuries. A superb collection of over 1,000 old hotel keys with the  fobs. A highlight of the archives is the 2 Louis Vuitton store invoices from 1890 for the same customer at the London store and the Paris store. Both invoices signed by Louis Vuitton.
