Here is an opportunity to obtain a remarkable piece of cartophilic history: an original letter written by the father of North American card-collecting, the late Jefferson Burdick. Dated 5 Feb. 1962, the typed letter is addressed to Mr. Price, a major baseball collector, from whom Burdick obviously hopes to acquire some material. In the course of the letter, Burdick mentions both Charles Bray and Dennis Snell. He also discusses his donation to the Metropolitan Museum and the role of museums as custodians of cartophilic and tobacco collectibles. Here is the premier collector of his generation doing what he did best: tracking down a treasure trove of cards! The letter shows some minor wear and soiling. (Serious baseball collectors will likely recognize the name “Price.”)
