Here we have my Classic Mercedes 230e which I have reluctantly decided to sell to fund the purchase of a newer Mercedes which I need to use as my daily transport. I have owned her for 16 months and she has been a joy to drive and gets lots of attention and nice comments when in use.
Leaving the Sindelfingen Factory in West Germany on 22nd August 1988 F766YAH was registered on 9th September 1988 and sold new by Robinsons of Norwich to its first owner who lived in Swaffham Norfolk. The Gentleman kept her for 2 years before trading her in at his local Mercedes Dealer Jim Russells in Downham Market Norfolk. She was then sold on 8th November 1990 to her second owner, a Lady from Saffron Walden Essex, who lovingly cared for her for the next 27 years. Always Garaged and maintained to a very high standard. I then purchased the car on 20th February 2017 and have used her sparingly on nice weekends and to attend classic car shows in. F766YAH is now kept at my place of work, strangely enough back in Swaffham where she first started out.
Exterior. Condition wise I would describe her as excellent. Not concours but potential to be with little effort. Bodywork is straight and dent free and the Diamond Blue Paint is all original and polishes up really well. There is no rust with the exception of a small scab at the front of the drivers front wing and also one in the same place on the passenger side wing and a scab above the front of the wheel arch also on the passenger front wing. These areas are small and easily repairable and don't require replacement of the wings themselves. You may be able to just see this in the photos. It was my intention to have this all repaired and then enter the Mercedes Owners Club concours but change in circumstance has forced me to let the car go as she is.
Interior. The Navy Blue Cloth Interior is also in excellent condition. All the seats are free of rips or stains with only the drivers seat bolster just beginning to show signs of fraying. Carpets are like new having benefitted from protection by the Navy Blue Original Tailored Ribbed Carpet Mats in the Front and Rear. The Dashboard is free of any damage and all the Headlining is unmarked. The Door Cards are excellent with just the o/s/r door card needing reglueing at the top rear edge and the n/s/f door card needing reglueing on the edge of the door pocket. Also the o/s/r c pillar trim needs reglueing where the trim meets the rear screen. All straight forward fixes and once complete will make the interior superb. The original Blaupunkt Como Radio Cassette is still fitted and working and comes complete with the security key card.
Boot. Excellent condition. Boot Carpet is unmarked, Boot Triangle present, Spare Wheel unused as is the Jack and Tool Kit, which is still in its protective plastic bag.
Engine Bay. The Engine bay has not been detailed but is clean and presentable, the header tank still has a label attached to it reminding when the coolant needed replacing 30 years ago. Inner wings are solid and free of any rust, engine is clean and runs quietly. Bonnet soundproofing is not present and Air Cleaner Box could do with repainting. Once this is done and engine bay detailed it will be superb.
Wheels. Original Steel Wheels with matching spare. Plastic Hub Caps are all present with only light scuffing to edges on all four. I do have 3 brand new ones unused and still boxed which may be available by separate negotiation, These are now very rare as no longer available new anymore. Tyres are all matching Continental Eco Contact 3 195/65R15 91H with plenty of tread.
Documents. V5 Registration document present and in my name. Original Clear Plastic Document Wallet present with Original Owners Manual, Service Book, Radio Leaflet, Dealer Book and Map. Jim Russell Front and Rear Window Stickers still present and she comes with 2 Keys, one with original Jim Russells Key Ring.

I can only assume the Odometer stopped working at some point in 2013 and this was replaced with a new Speedometer by the Mercedes main dealer in Cambridge on 24/01/14. Judging by the mileage history approximately 1000 miles would be unaccounted for. The current mileage showing on the speedometer is 7452 miles, so taking into account the missing mileage it would still put the mileage around 68000.
The car is currently Mot'd till 15/09/18 and she is HPI clear. I intend to have the car serviced before sale with new Oil, Air, Fuel Filter and Spark Plugs. All genuine OE Mercedes Benz Parts. I could also put a fresh 12 month MOT on her if a sale price to my satisfaction is agreed.
Good Points. Lots. This is a quality unmolested, totally original, low mileage pre facelift Mercedes Benz W124. Everyone reading this advert will know how good these cars really are. With little work required this has the potential to be a show winner and will make a great investment.
Bad Points. Rear Electric Windows not working. Needs new motors I was told. No one ever sat in the back so it didn't bother me.
Central Locking doesn't always have enough vacuum to unlock the fuel flap or rear doors. Most of the time it works fine and there is a manual release in the boot for the fuel flap so you will never get stuck.
Passenger Front Dash Speaker is a bit crackly. Not a problem when listening to the Radio, only noticeable when playing Cassettes, and who has any of them anymore.
Sometimes when driving at low speed she feels a bit lumpy, when pulling away I can best describe it as the engine fluttering. It doesn't happen all the time and it stops if on a long journey. I don't know why it happens and she will still drive as has never resulted in not starting or breaking down. Its a bit annoying though, I have replaced the Distributor Cap and Rotor Arm thinking it could be electrical but it still sometimes does it.
