This item is an original Pennsylvania Railroad lantern manufactured by Adams & Westlake.  The lantern contains a clear globe.  The chimney cap is embossed with a PRR keystone and “Adlake No 250 Kero.”  The globe is marked “ADLAKE KERO.”  The top is embossed with patent dates, the latest of which is 1923.   The lantern comes with the pot (burner), but does not have a wick.

 

The lantern is 16” high, counting the handle and the base is 6” diameter.

 

The lantern is in good condition.  Normal wear on the metal frame.  Globe is in good condition.


Entire proceeds from this auction benefit the SoNo Switch Tower Museum in South Norwalk, CT.  This historic railroad interlocking tower was built in 1896 and was called SS #44 under New Haven Railroad and later BERK under Penn Central.  The tower, containing 68 "Armstrong" levers, was saved from demolition by the WestConn Chapter - NRHS and is open to the public from May - Oct.  For details, see the tower's website at sonotower.org.
