Description

This listing is for a pair of vintage roller skates, from Sears. They were called "training" skates, because they didn't have bearings. I am not sure what difference that makes! They are expandable - there is a nut on the back that you can loosen and the skates will extend to 9". They are about 2 3/4" wide. The are in good vintage condition - they are made from - I think - steel, but I don't know metals very well. They are heavy. The wheels I think are cast iron - they have darkened with age. The skates have some rust spots in several places. They have leather straps, and leather toe pieces that lace. The leather has darkened with age, and is slightly worn. The laces are still white, but starting to discolor with age. If you pull the straps backwards, they hang really well - they would be fun hanging from a wall. Although the wheels turn smoothly, I don't really think they would be great to use!

They are marked Sears, with the model number 610-28109.

I remember getting a pair for Christmas when I was really little (about 5), and I am 70. I also remember almost killing myself - the sidewalk was REALLY hard, and the skates were REALLY hard to stand up on! And, of course, we never wore helmets or pads. We had never even heard of helmets and pads! I had lots of mercurochrome painting my knees and elbows. I persevered, and in time, became pretty good!
