This set takes us from early balloon flight through to Sputnik and the space race, plus dramatic visions of the future of space travel. The subjects covered on these colour cards are an eclectic mix or real and fantasy and include the Wright Brothers plane, gliding over the Alps, ‘Laika’ the Sputnik dog, American’s Jupiter ‘C’ rocket, diagrams and pictures of what they thought space suits and rockets would look like, an imaginary atom powered plane and pictures of the Royal Navy’s Sea Slug rockets in action. All the action is described on the number backs. This was also issued by John E. Esslemont Ltd in 1966, Musgrave Brothers Ltd in 1961 and A. S Wilkin Ltd in 1960. An interesting set with cards size 68 x 36mm.
