GARRARD 301, 401 Xad PLATTER DAMPING RINGS
Garrard platters ring like a bell for over 18 seconds if totally undamped.
Two O-rings are provided which will significantly damp that resonance on their own. This is particularly useful
if you are using an alternative mat to the Garrard rubber mat. Felt, for instance, is not an effective damping material
in this application as it has so little mass.
Will also fit other platters like the Thorens though fitting accurately takes more care.

This damping technique is not new, Oracle introduced it with the original and innovative Delphi, calling it a
Peripheral Wave Trap. I have to make do with a modified skeletal Alexandria. I followed suit, not long after,
with my 401 and have used it this way since then. This mod may not be for the purists, where the original
resonance will form part of the "character" of the Garrards. Fit my XTM1 acrylic or XTM2 cork mat
for a better LP interface which further damps the platter.
Anyway, you get two O-rings, which are conveniently located by the recesses in the Garrard platters between
the strobe marks. It's as simple as that. Fitting to Rega and other flat platters is rather more fiddly, requiring a
combination of stretching and rolling and adjustment. It's worth the effort - when fitted, platter ringing is reduced
to a dull thunk. You do not get the platters or mat.
