Help is at hand!

Try this excellent Wittner Chin Rest model 254 131 the standard 'Centred' model that totally replaces that old and possibly irritating ebony/metal (nickel brass. or nickel steel) clamped Chin Rest. Please note 'centred' model means the chin rest straddles equally over the tailpiece's 'tail' bringing your line of sight (should you look down the fingerboard) more centrally. Also better for reaching over the 'C' string when playing lots of passages in the lower octave of the violin. Could prove more comfortable for your back and shoulders and overall posture. BUT, it is a non-returnable item owing to hygiene so please make sure the 'centred' model is better for you and your playing! 

I think for Viola players especially a 16 - 17" Viola, this anti-allergenic Wittner Chin-rest is particularly well suited helping you bow more evenly, comfortably across all strings. Brings the Viola more 'into the correct up-right position/posture on your shoulder. It provides great line of sight down the fingerboard too!!
