The June 2019 issue is the DieselCar & EcoCar Top 50 Awards edition, where the very best new cars are celebrated. A new model explosion over the past 12 months has seen more new cars go on sale than ever before, with car makers exploiting new niches to win sales over their competitors. And while the diesel market has seen some turmoil, this has been mitigated by a long list of new alternative fuel models joining the manufacturer’s model line-ups.

And as each new car arrives on the market, it is scrutinised and assessed by Diesel Car and Eco Car’s road test team, making sure that it passes muster in an ever-crowded marketplace. Each newcomer is evaluated in real-world conditions with the target buyer in mind, making our road test assessments more down-to-earth and relevant. Each key area of the vehicle, from infotainment system to drivetrain is carefully reviewed and benchmarked against the class best.

The Diesel Car and Eco Car Top 50 is now firmly established in the industry and is in its fifth year. More than 200 vehicles have been evaluated by our testers over the past year, and each has been carefully examined, reappraised and then put into a definitive list to celebrate the very best 50 new cars on sale in the UK today. So what’s number one? You’ll need to read a copy to find out.

You’ll notice that this issue has had a bit of a nip and a tuck – a facelift in car terms – designed to freshen the design. It’s far from radical, but is intended to enhance clarity and bring with it a few fresh ideas.

We’ve also been testing the new Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class and the Jaguar XE, and driven the DS 3 Crossback and Mercedes-Benz B-Class on UK roads. In EcoCar, we get behind the wheel of the Toyota Camry Hybrid – a nameplate that has been absent from the UK for 15 years – and test Audi’s pure-electric e-tron. This month’s used car buyer’s guide centres on the Volvo XC90 D5 (2015-onwards).

There’s news of a diesel explosion in Audi’s S-department, with new S5, S6 and S7-badged diesels on their way later this year. A facelifted MINI Clubman is uncovered, we reveal the new Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class and there’s spyshots of the upcoming new Vauxhall Corsa. There are also all your favourites including Doctor Diesel, Marketplace, The Extra Mile, Buying, Maintaining and Selling, and the most up-to-date data section in the business, including all the new WLTP fuel economy figures.
