Very rare and Antique Sad Iron, base is about 3.5" wide by 10" long and about 8.5" tall.  It is very heavy duty and substantive.  Was considered a professional iron for all day use during its time.  Comes with original wood handle and is marked with lettering in German and the number "4".  

Has a very striking silhouette compared to all others of this category including the F.W. Series.  It was kindly pinned and is prominently featured on Pinterest (presumably because of its shape and form compared to others.) It appears to be one of kind on eBay and elsewhere.

Add to your collection or use as a door stopper.  Certainly a conversation topic. 

It was purchased abroad which increases the likelihood of NOT finding in the U.S.  We previously had to pay shipping and import duties on this item to the States.  This is scarce and highly collectible antique.  Limited research indicates may have been used on a marine battleship or in a commercial setting because of its heavy duty size and composition, approximate 19th century.  Here are some details:

The nameplate has a highly unusual shape of a shield and the mark appears to read "BREVETTO" on top with "GERMAN" along the bottom and the number "4" in between.  Bears some resemblance to the F.W. series - which are more available than this brand. 

The top portion is molded with rounded edges following the shape of the top of the iron,  providing a striking and unusual silohuette see side view photos.  The top lid is held in place by a roughly hewn latch.  It has a back chimney and the metal around the exit chimney is pitted and worn in some areas.  It is also highly gouged and pitted on the inside top cover, see photos.  

The original wood handle is ergonomically shaped and  is a little loose and can turn slightly sideways when lifted by the handle.  It has some thin splits in the top of the handle and missing pieces of wood on the ends. It is laden with vintage patina and rust.  When lifting or moving, due to age, recommend picking up from the heavy bottom. 

It is a wonderful addition to any collection.  This antique iron is being sold as is and will be carefully packed and boxed.  Its construction is simple and rough yet elegant in design.  Other parts may be missing as well, but being sold as found.  Antique piece with a unique character and charm.
