Includes Ultra Rare Signature of Jake Daubert MVP Who Died in 1924. Ebbets Field was a historic baseball venue in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn. It was home to the Brooklyn Superbas who became the Brooklyn Dodgers from 1913 to 1957. This park officially opened April 9, 1913. Offered is a historic Spalding Official National League Baseball. Although the park opened in the beginning of the season on April 9th the dedication did not occur until three months later on July 15th. Some research of the market turned up an ornate invitation to the dedication program that states “The Officers and Directors of The Brooklyn Ball Club request the honor of your presence at the Dedication of Ebbets Field - Bedford Avenue and Sullivan Street, Borough of Brooklyn, City of New York, Tuesday afternoon July the fifteenth, nineteen hundred and thirteen at three o’clock - Brooklyn vs. Chicago.” The inscription tells the story. This was a game ball used when the Superbas (Dodgers) fell to the Chicago Cubs on July 15, 1913 the day of the dedication. The final score was 9 to 6. The ball was given to Abe Yager a famous sportswriter from the Brooklyn Daily Eagle. The specific inscriptions on the ball are as follows: North Panel: To Abe Yager From W.F. East Panel: Charles Ebbets and Nap Rucker Key signatures along with deceased date are: Jake Daubert (D 1924), C.H. Ebbets team owner (D 1925), Bill Dahlan (D 1950) and Nap Rucker (D 1970). Extremely rare signature of Jake Daubert who was actually the MVP in 1913 when he batted .350. He was also a member of the World Champion 1919 Cincinnati Reds. This is also the only known Charles Ebbets signed baseball. This is one of the most historically significant Brooklyn Dodgers baseballs in existance and would fit very nicely in the Baseball Hall Of Fame in Cooperstown. |
