Description
This Noah's Ark pull toy comes with 11 little animals. The Ark and the animals are made from "fiberboard" a heavy, layered cardboard that is brightly painted - although the colors have slightly muted with time. The Ark has a cardboard insert, and wood wheels. It is a "pull toy" but doesn't have a string. The little animals all stand well, and are really cute. The interior paper is fragile along the edges, and stained on the bottom. The outside fiberboard is sturdy and in nice condition, with a bit of wear to the paint and edges. There are no breaks or damage, other than the weakening edges of the paper insert (see photos).
The piece was made by Trixy-Toys out of Boston, which operated in the 1920's and 1930's. During their time in business they made all kinds of fiberboard toys that are characterized by an Art Deco appeal to their brightly colored, folk art designs.
Because the toys are made from fiber and not wood, it is amazing that any of them survived. I am very partial to these toys, and am always thrilled when I find one that is in good condition, like this one.
Noah's Arks are very desirable to toy collectors, and this one is a really cute one, from the 1920's or 1930's. It is marked Trixy-Toy on the bottom.
It measures 6 1/4" wide and 5" tall, and the animals vary in size between 2" and 3". The paint is done by stencil.
I have lots of vintage toys, most holiday themed, so take a look! This one won't disappoint.
