A Little About MARGARETTE STEIFF:

The official founding date of Steiff Manufacture was 1880 and the first big seller was an elephant. The stuffed bear with moveable arms and legs didn't arrive until 1902. The breakthrough came when they began selling in the USA in 1906 under the name Teddy Bear, named after President Theodore Roosevelt.

In order to make their own high quality products unmistakeable, and fend off numerous cheap imitations they developed the brand sign "Steiff - Button in Ear". At the world exhibition in St. Louis, Margarette was awarded the Gran Prix, and finally in 1906 Margarette Steiff GmbH was founded the company name which is still used today.
