History

It was the summer of 1987 when some of the shelter guards in the area decided to make the Pallars - Ribagorça - Aran crossing in one day. It was not a competition, just a way to visit the other guards and chat for a while.

Someone, we don't know exactly who, or why, called it Carros de Foc (Chariots of Fire), and since then, summer or winter, when someone makes the journey in the daytime, the voice spreads from shelter to shelter as fast as the wind crosses the hills: "Today the Carros de Foc pass by".

Since that summer of 1987, many mountaineers, hikers and runners have enjoyed the Carros de Foc crossing and many repeat the experience, because there will always be places full of beauty still to be discovered.

Our challenge is to spread the love we feel for these mountains and to make known the beauty of an extraordinary journey, which will surely provide us with unique experiences.

The regions

The Pallars, the Alta Ribagorça and the Val d'Aran are the regions that are home to one of the most beautiful areas in the Pyrenees and make up the Aigües Tortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park.

Discovering these landscapes has always been one of the objectives of most mountaineers. Perhaps for this reason, shelters were appearing in the area with the idea of facilitating ascents and crossings and with the passage of time these shelters have become part of the landscape. So now we can find a total of nine shelters that allow us to travel around the area making different combinations of itineraries.

To do the classic Carros de Foc tour we will need between 5 and 7 days.
