THE AFRICAN CAMPAIGN is as close as you can get to the Wallabies without being selected.

In August 1992, Australia’s World Champion Rugby team, the Wallabies, arrived in South Africa to decide who was the best team in the world.  Three lead up games and a single test match meant this short tour would be one of unprecedented intensity and drama.  The side had not met for twenty three years.  The Wallabies were on a hit and run mission to decide the heavyweight  champions of the world.  Travel with legends of the game, Farr-Jones,  Campese, Eales, Kearns and Ofahengaue as they get ready for a pulsating one-off Test match.

A team of Australia’s leading film makers joined the team to bring to the screen a unique and personal view of life on tour with the Wallabies.  But it’s not just brilliantly photographed rugby.

We see the behind the scenes struggle for positions as rival team mates vie for a gold Wallaby jersey.  We’re with them for the day they spend in a black township coaching young rugby players – including some young fellows, so fast on their feet even the greatest winger in the world David Campese can’t lay a hand on them in a game of touch.  We get a real feel for the emerging South Africa; it’s culture, music and leading personalities.

A pulsating soundtrack by the country’s leading black musicians and choirs provides poetic counterpoint to the physical confrontation on the field.

Not only is there exclusive coverage of the games plus meetings with Nelson Mandela and President De Klerk, but also behind the scenes fun and drama with the players themselves.  “The African Campaign” is as close to the champion team as you can get without being selected.

A sensational combination of hard hitting football, African music, poetry and humour, this film is a unique record of a historic event.

"... arguably the best sports video yet released, and a very important social document."... Drum Media.

"Stands apart as having merit as a film...seamlessly blended with some transcendent rugby." Sydney Morning Herald
