Cumin is a well-known spice, but not everyone likes it. But it not only refines food, it also makes it more digestible. Ancient peoples already knew this, because caraway is one of the oldest spices in the world and it is actually used on Allen continent. Incidentally, caraway is also grown almost everywhere in Europe. It is harvested between July and September, after which it ripens in warehouses and is only then sold as seed. This caraway is free from harmful substances and can be kept for at least 24 months.

In caraway tea, this seed is often found in combination with fennel and aniseed. Young mothers in particular often drink caraway tea. For this, two teaspoons of caraway seeds are generally poured over 500 milliliters of hot water, after which the tea has to steep for about seven minutes. It is perhaps worth mentioning that caraway seeds are also used to make caraway schnapps, which is preferably served after hearty dishes.

Caraway seed is rich in essential oils, tannins and fatty acids. Ground seeds are the ideal companion for hearty meals. You know them from bread, from a dish like goulash, from the side dish cabbage and also from cheese. This spice makes heavy dishes and also fatty dishes with meat easy to digest. An example are hearty roasts, as they are mainly known in the Sunday kitchen. The meat is rubbed with caraway seed, which gives it a very special taste. Caraway also helps with mushrooms, for example, which many people do not tolerate well. If they are seasoned with a pinch of cumin, they are easier to digest. This spice is also ideal if you use it when cooking potatoes and add it to the boiling water with salt. Incidentally, caraway should not be confused with cumin, i.e. cumin, as it is often used in Mexican cuisine, for example.
