About the artist:

"Mary Briggs

Eugene, Oregon

Mary Briggs began her education with clay at the University of Georgia, where she studied with Ron Meyers and Andy Nasisse. Afterward, she obtained an MFA from the University of Iowa. Her current work investigates forms that are functional and inspired by historical folk pottery. Mary began drawing on her work about 15 years ago as landscapes presented themselves to her in the brush marks or drip lines of the white slip she applied over the terracotta clay. She finds it fascinating that we still crave a relationship with the outdoors, and says that it seems to be in our DNA. Mary hopes that her work serves as a restful reminder of our connection to everything and through that, each other. She is currently a studio potter in Eugene, Oregon, where she enjoys the landscape and outdoor activities."
