DEVELOPED BY

For the first time, the legendary Swedish FireSteel magnesium alloy fire starter was developed for the Swedish Ministry of Defense. For the first time, it was possible to reliably start fires at high altitudes and at low temperatures. With its ability to directly ignite flammable gases or liquids, the Swedish FireSteel fire starter is ideal for both traditional alcohol and modern gas burners. This versatility has made it very popular with many military units around the world. Manufactured by Light My Fire in Sweden, the fire starter has been further developed in design and is equipped with a precise stainless steel firing pin, ergonomic handle and integrated emergency whistle.

HOW IT WORKS

The Swedish FireSteel fire starter consists of two components – ignition rod and firing pin. The rod is made of a high-quality pyrophoric metal alloy made of iron, magnesium, lanthanum and cerium. The precisely ground edge on the stainless steel firing pin guarantees maximum spark formation. By scraping against the rod, the friction causes tiny metal shavings to form, which immediately oxidize and become very hot sparks. The notable difference between the Swedish FireSteel fire starter and other friction-based fire starters, often called ignition metal, is the proprietary hardening process that produces a high-quality, long-lasting material without compromising its consistency.

HOW TO START A FIRE WITH Light My Fire

1. Collect small sticks, bark or similar flammable items. The smaller the better as it is easier to light.

2. Stack everything into a small pile.

3. Pull out your Swedish FireSteel or the integrated FireSteel from your FireKnife.

4. Use paper, birch bark, or, better yet, TinderSticks or Tinder-on-a-Rope. Scrape off some shavings and carefully place them under the small pile. With its 80% resin content, the wood of the Honduras pine is an ideal fire starter. It burns slowly with great heat and is insensitive to moisture.

5. Start with small sticks and build the fire carefully. Let it grow slowly. Make sure your fire gets enough oxygen - and be patient.

BENEFITS AND USES

The main advantage of the Swedish FireSteel fire starter over conventional ignition aids is its absolute reliability. The Swedish FireSteel is very robust and requires no flint, lighter fluid, batteries or spare parts. The Swedish FireSteel fire starter works even in harsh conditions such as extreme cold, where gas hardly evaporates and is difficult to ignite. Unlike a butane lighter, which is affected by both humidity and lack of oxygen at altitude, the Swedish FireSteel also works perfectly at any altitude. Its sparks are bright enough to be used as a distress signal. So that nothing gets lost, the firing pin and rod hang on a cord. The set is so small and compact that it fits in every bag.
