Each tonearm is designed and based on its own geometrical parameters (pivot to spindle distance, effective length, overhang and offset angle). In other words, all tonearms have different geometry and needs a specific (unique) arc and null points on it for accurate alignment of cartridge/stylus!

Therefore, all stock and "universal" protractors are very basic and are able to align a phono cartridge for quick start of your turntable only.

In general, cartridge alignment protractor may be designed in accordance with manufacturer specifications as well as in accordance with Baerwald (Lofgren A), Stevenson, Lofgren B designs.
