Charles Munch Debussy La mer Nocturnes Albéniz Iberia SACD TOWER RECORDS JAPAN

Product introduction

The recording of the last years of Munch, a master of 20th century France, was made into SACD for the first time. Enjoy Munch's brilliant music full of color and dynamism with the latest remastering! The CD layer is mastered separately from the SACD layer.

Debussy's two works, recorded in February 1968, are recordings of Munch's last years, who died in November of the same year, and both are gems that mark the end of multiple recordings. In Munch's illustrious board history, there are more than 10 types of "sea" that rank high in the number of remaining sound sources, even if only confirmed. Among the many songs that Munch picked up in his life, I especially liked this "sea", and even in this performance in his last years, he didn't feel old at all, but rather he had a lively expression and a deeply digging content. You can listen to the performance. Of course, the water surface is not a calm sea, and the expression with a dynamic flow as if there is an unimaginable peristalsis under the water surface is a masterpiece. After all, this "sea" is exceptional, and Munch's music, which has been completed in a sense, as if he had pursued what he wanted to do, fascinates listeners and never stops. The Orchester National de France also understands the intention well, and the responsiveness that is different from the studio recordings of other labels is also worth listening to. And although there are other sound sources for "Nocturne", this is the only one that has three songs (note that the name of the female choir in "Sirene" was not originally specified). Albéniz's "Iberia" was Munch's only sound source, and was originally coupled with Debussy's "Iberia". In this release, due to the recording time, Albéniz is combined with Debussy's two songs. If you listen to it together with the TWSA1042 released at the same time, you can understand the original intention of the album. This album will be reprinted as a milestone 50 years after Munch's death and 100 years after Debussy's death. In terms of sound quality, the quality of the recording itself in the concert hall varies widely, but this sound source left a fresh and vivid sound. In particular, the tones of wind instruments at that time were colored. With this reprint, the stage position is closer to the listener, and the separation is good, so the overall outlook has improved. You can really feel the latest reprint effect. This time, we created a new high-resolution master from the analog master tapes owned by Nippon Columbia. It has been carefully digitized (192kHz / 24bit) from the analog master and further mastered (SACD layer and CD layer are mastered separately). In the SACD layer, you can enjoy the precise and clear sound quality closer to the master, and in the CD layer, you can enjoy the vividness and delicate sound of stringed and wind instruments compared to the previous commercial CDs. As with this series, the CD layer has been digitized (44.1kHz / 20bit) from the analog master to the latest (2018) separately from the SACD layer. You can enjoy the extruded sound and the thickness of the sound that are unique to CD specs. A special "concert hall sound source" will be released in a limited edition.
