Ship History: "Caviar & Cargo: The C3 Passenger Ships" by Mark Goldberg, Volume 2 of the American Merchant Marine History Series, printed 1992, softbound w/ 394 pages.

The late Mark Goldberg was a passionate chronicler of ship history. In this book he follows the careers of the C-3 class of combo vessels designed and built by the U.S. Maritime Commissions in the late 1930s and 1940s. The first ships sailed in 1940 for Delta Lines (DELBRASIL) and American President Lines (PRESIDENT JACKSON). But these sleek and fast vessels were soon drafted into war duties. Afterwards the C-3 class became the mainstay of American shipping such as the FOUR ACES of American Export, Farrell Line's AFRICAN COMET, Delta's DEL NORTE, and APL's PRESIDENT MONROE. Later foreign operators were able to buy C-3 hulls including Sitmar (FAIRSEA and FAIRSKY), Lauro Lines (ROMA and SYDNEY) and Europe Canada Line (SEVEN SEAS). Goldberg thoroughly covers all ship's histories in this book.
