Herkimer diamonds are double-terminated quartz crystals discovered in and around Herkimer County, New York and the Mohawk River Valley. Although Herkimer County, New York is the location for which these crystals are named, similar doubly terminated quartz crystals have been found in many other locations, including Arizona & Norway.The "diamond" in their name is due to both their clarity and natural faceting - crystals possess double termination points and 18 total faces (six on each point, six around the center).
