Set of TWO brand new tyres (tires) for the restoration of the pinch rollers for Pioneer RT-901 and RT-909 open reel tape recorders.

 

Restore your old, worn, or deteriorated rollers to ensure your machine is performing at its best.

 

Designed to suit RT-909 and RT-901 only. I have tyres to suit models RT-701 and RT-707 here.

 

Outside diameter 1.00” / 25.4mm. Cross section 0.424” / 10.77mm. Wall thickness 0.1725” / 4.38mm

 

New stock, rubber is fresh. Manufactured by PRB. I import them in bulk and package in twin packs to help keep price as low as possible.

Tyre replacement is a straightforward DIY job.

You will need:

·      A sharp knife, such as a Stanley knife or craft knife

·      Acetone or other suitable solvent cleaner

·      Cleaning cloth such as an old piece of towel

·      Suitable gloves (acetone proof)

·      Dishwashing detergent

·      Small amount of oil to lubricate on reassembly

 

1.     Remove the old rollers from your machine

2.     Using the knife, cut away as much of the old rubber as you can from the metal hub

3.     Using a solvent such as acetone, clean any remaining remnants of rubber away from the hub. Always work in a well ventilated area when working with acetone, and wear suitable gloves. Take some time to ensure that the metal surface of the hub is perfectly clean and ‘silver’ before moving to the next step.

4.     Immerse both the metal hub and the new rubber tyre in to some water with a little dishwashing detergent mixed in. This will assist the tyre to slide in to place, without binding and causing lateral tension

5.     Place the hub horizontally on a flat surface, and press the tyre smoothly but firmly down on to the hub Make sure the edges line up neatly and evenly on both sides.

6.     Dry the outside with a clean cotton cloth, or allow to air dry. Reinstall on machine, oiling shaft lightly.
