At. Anthony's Pottery, Sewell Large Tazza / Cake Stand, Transferware, c1810.

This piece originates from the St. Anthony's Pottery. The pottery was purchased in 1804 by Joseph Sewell and from then on was known as Sewell until it merged with Donkin's in 1819.

This piece features the impressed Sewell's mark used during the tenure of Joseph Sewell as propietor (1804-1819). Upon his retirement, the name of the firm changed to Sewell & Donkin, the name change is noted as of 1819.

This is a very rare tazza or cake stand and features some of the earliest blue and white transferware used to decorate pottery.

The piece is in very good condition with no damage, chips, cracks or restoration. There are two very small firing frits on the underside of the rim. The glaze is crazed and as such there is some slight staining, althiugh nothing that detracts from its overall striking appearance.
