Antique Empire Gilt Bronze Clock La Lectura around 1810

This gorgeous Empire clock is made in France around 1810.

Beautiful bronze ormolu mantel clock, depicting a reading woman leaning on a bookcase, which is why this clock is also called "Bibliothèque" in literature. On the other side of the bookcase a reference to Astronomy with the so-called Sphère placed on a column.

All this on a green marble base.

Literature :  "La Pendule Francaise" P. Kjellberg on page 395 (see photo) and in "Die Frazösische Bronzeuhr" von Elke Niehüser, s. 232.

Gilding is all over in good condition . The clock  has been professionally cleaned and checked by watchmaker.

Enamel dial with Roman numerals is in good condition.

French movement is with silk suspension striking on the silvered bronze bell at 1/1 and ½ hours. The clock is missing the back door.

Key and pendulum included.
