Franklin White: Australian (1892? 1975): 

Beautifully composed drawing of a curvaceous lady lying on a day bed, oak framed and glazed.

Size 11.5 x 9.5 inches (29 x 24 cm)

Painter, draughtsman and teacher. Born in Fulham near Adelaide, South Australia. (Full name Charles Franklin White). First arrived in England in 1913 and attended Heatherly's School of Fine Art in 1914 (the oldest independent art school in London, founded in 1845). After further studies in Paris, attended the Slade School of Fine Art in 1915, returning there in 1919, after war service in the Admiralty Aircraft Department. He then joined the staff of the Slade and taught there until his retirement in 1957. He exhibited at Agnews, Redfern Gallery and the New English Art Club. In 1958 founded the Samuel Palmer School of Art, in Shoreham, Kent, where he lived from the 1920s. Was married to the artist Gertude Franklin White and their son, Edmund White, was also an artist. A centenary exhibition was held at Bourne Gallery, Reigate, 1992.
