A rather unusual find to say the least.

I sent this coin into PCGS as part of an unopened 1964 Proof Envelope. I sent several 1964 packages in at once for grading and never looked at the coins.
When I saw this one got graded with Environmental Damage I was disappointed and figured the cellophane in this particular envelope had been compromised at some time and I would be getting One Ugly Coin Back!! I was thankful no other coins in the order were graded as damaged as I would have kicked myself for not checking the coins as I usually do and removing any ones that may fail to grade.

When I got the coin back low an behold the damage appears to be a gunshot wound to President Lincoln's Head with a Bullet still lodged in it. A little spooky to say the least. History added to this proof coin. To be honest, it freaked me out a little when I first saw it and I have had it tucked away for a bit.

It is not a mint error but if you collect unique coins this is definitely one as PCGS has confirmed this was a natural effect and now that the coin is encapsulated the visual will remain the same.

This could be a once in a lifetime chance to get a coin where a random natural event repeated and preserved an historic national tragedy.

The coin in the picture is the one you will receive.
