On Friday, July 24, 1953 27-year-old rookie catcher Dick Teed led off the bottom of the seventh inning at Ebbets Field, pinch hitting for pitcher Jim Hughes with the Dodgers trailing the Braves by a score of 11-1. Teed struck out swinging in what would prove to be his only major league appearance.
