At first glance his landscape paintings of valleys and meadows, estuaries and marshes - sometimes populated by birds but never by people - look like those of others who live and paint on the Monterey Peninsula. They are pleasant to look at; that's his aim. But his art is in the details. The closer you look, the more you see.

In 'Valley Sentinel' he faithfully captures nature's topography, it's tangle and messiness, the fuzziness, the bramble, the thicket, the dampness and layers of atmosphere. A viewer can imagine the sound of the wind brushing through trees or the smell of flora decomposing into soil. It's not all chaos. There are also patterns and order in this piece as there are patterns and order in nature.


ARTIST NOTES: Miguel Dominguez was born in El Paso, Texas on October 3, 1941. He spent his formative years in the agricultural valley of Salinas, California where he gained an appreciation for open spaces, wooded areas and rolling hills. Those early observations now reflect themselves in many of his paintings.

Miguel Dominguez's work has been offered at auction multiple times, with realized prices ranging from $75 USD to $163,588 USD, depending on the size and medium of the artwork.


CONDITION: The artwork is in excellent condition with no flaws to note. It is signed in the lower right corner and on the reverse. It is double matted and enclosed in a classic gold leaf wood frame.
