ALGAE CLEAN SCRUBBER
BY WATER STREAM REFUGIUM
1: Finding the right spot to house the ACS to your sump
filter. The ACS needs to be above sump levels, based on
top of the sump.
Mounting Options:
ACS-SR16 Rail Mount
ACS-SH Hanger
ACS-ADJ Adjustable Hanger
2: Lighting is all in place. You can move the light fixtures up
to view the algae screen on both sides
3: Putting on the return pipes, first adjust height for 1”
return pipe by cutting to the depth of 1/2” to 1” down in the
water in the sump, to reduce water noise level. Putting the
1” return and the 3/4” emergency overflow pipes on, you
can use PVC cement to glue them on or use MOLYKOTE
to seal and press them on. Be sure to twist lightly back and
forth when gluing or using molykote. With molykote you
can remove the return pipes if needed for cleaning.
4: Hooking up a pump to the ACS. You have a union fitting
on the spray bar screen and a 1/2” barb fitting for 1/2”
tubing. Remove the union when putting the tubing
on the barbed fitting then put the union back together.
Pump size or flow over screen is about 200gph. You can
use your return sump pump by tee and valve to control
the flow or with the ACS-SK the pump is supplied with
two foot of 1/2’silicone tubing.
It depends on how available nutrients, nitrates and phosphates is in your tank on how fast algae will grow, if it’s taking to much out, you can adjust the lighting cycle and/or use the touch control for the lighting to increase or lower the
brightness level.
Note: When water is flowing out the 3/4” emergency pipe you may have algae buildup in the main 1” drain pipe and needs to be clean out.
Finger touch the power icon less than 3 seconds for on/off, touch the power icon for more than 3 seconds for dimming function to lower or rise brightness level.

Algae Clean Scrubber uses algae as a natural filter to move excess nutrients (Nitrate, Phosphate and other pollutants) to grow algae in a controlled unit to be easily removed to clean or harvest most of the algae and not in your display tank. This form of water filtration can reduce the need of frequent water changes and cleaning.

The advantages of a Water Stream Refugium Algae Clean Scrubber
1. LED Lighting slides into window pockets to enclose lighting into main algae chamber on both sides. Allowing no light on outside.
Note: Best to run ACS lights opposite of display tank lights with a timer to help stabilize pH swings.
Also if the algae is growing to fast and pulling to much nutrients out, you can use the dimmer control to dim the lights down for less algae growth.
2. The easy removable screen housing for cleaning and harvesting algae. If screen is damaged it’s easy to remove and install a new screen.
3. Water inlet 1/2” ID with removable union to tee off from your main return pump or a separate pump.
Note: Best to have a valve to shut off water supply to ACS for cleaning and harvesting algae or just unplug power to the pump.
