According to EU regulation 517/2014, fluorinated greenhouse gases (so-called F-gases) such as R410A must be gradually reduced and replaced by alternative refrigerants with a lower climate impact. Although coolants with a global warming potential GWP≤750 are only prescribed from 2025, we, as an environmentally conscious company, have decided to convert our air conditioning units to R32 with GWP=675 (GWP: Global Warming Potential / greenhouse potential).
However, the new refrigerant R32 also offers considerable advantages.
The potential refrigeration capacity of R32 is 1.6 times the potential refrigeration capacity of R410A.
In particular, with R32 the pressure losses are lower than with R410A for the same performance and the density of R32 is also 10% lower. As a result, the performance figures of the system can be significantly increased while the heat exchanger surfaces remain the same.
In addition, R32 has a significantly lower global warming potential (GWP), an ozone depletion potential (ODP) from zero and relatively low flammability.
The global warming potential (GWP=675) of R32 is 68% lower than that of R410A, the most common refrigerant today. (GWP: Global Warming Potential / Greenhouse Potential).
If you also consider that 30% less R32 has to be filled, the GWP per system even drops to just 472, and is therefore approx. a quarter of that of a system filled with R410A.
All of these are very good reasons for us to take the next innovative step today.
