Antique 18thC Wedgwood English Basaltware Baby Figurine Figure Basalt Ware

This product data sheet is originally written in English.

For sale is a rare baby figurine made from basalt by Wedgwood around 1773. These were reproduced from casts, probably by Mrs. Landre after the originals by Duquesnoy ( Il Fiammingo ). There is some confusion because these have been referred to as figures of Somnus (the sleeper), but that name refers to a different figure. This little guy isn't really sleeping either but rather lying down and pointing at something with his left hand while holding a ball in his right hand. There is a cloth underneath him and the base has a nice design to it. Really a superbly made figurine! It is in perfect condition. The piece is marked underneath with the impressed WEDGWOOD mark and it has a sticker from a collection on it as well. The piece is 2.25 inches tall, 5.125 inches wide and 3.25 inches deep (including the pointing hand). England Figur 18th century
