DT-52318 Shim Selection Gauge Set

Application: 2019 Cruze and Malibu with VT40 Automatic Transmission, 2020 Buick Encore GX and Chevrolet Trailblazer w/VT40 (RPO MRG) transmission

There are tapered bearings and cups on each end of the pinion gear and the differential carrier assembly in the VT40 Transmission. DT-52318 is a unit repair tool set that consists of two precision-ground gauging tools that allow selection of the proper bearing cup shims to ensure correct bearing preloads. The spring-loaded gauging tools fit inside the transmission between the case and torque converter housing.

Eight stand-off bolts and spacers separate the case and housing to allow the technician to insert special extended-length feeler gauges into the gaps in the gauges and determine which shim thickness to install. The shim gauges, feeler gauges, and hardware are packaged in a durable custom storage case.
