This is a new, modern siliconized rubber top for the airhead tool box. Same heavy weight as OEM. The dealer sells theirs for $84-- probably why you rarely see them in circulation. The BMW parts fiche says "52 53 1 240 500 COVER (from 08/79)", but you can see it fits great on my 1975 R90S. Protect that valuable owners manual from turning to mush, and the tool kit from rusting. You should see the contents of a covered box vs an open one after several decades, really does protect everything inside. Note: these are often glued to the toolbox at the back edge, creating a kind of easy hinge. NONE FINER.
If your box has a glued on foam edge, tear off the foam edge-- all that does is stop the box from rattling, which this lid does equally well.
