Quassia amara, also known as amargo, bitter-ash, bitter-wood, or hombre grande (spanish for big man) is a species in the genus Quassia, with some botanists treating it as the sole species in the genus.
Quassia is an attractive small evergreen shrub or tree from the tropics and belongs to the family Simaroubaceae.
Was named after called Graman Quassi, and enslaved healer and botanist who showed Europeans the plant.The name "amara" means "bitter" in Latin and describes its very bitter taste.
All plant parts are useful.In manufacturing, quassia is used to flavor foods, beverages, lozenges, and laxatives.
Quassia is used for treating anorexia, constipation, indigestion, and fever.Supports healthy blood sugar levels.
It is also used to rid the intestines of various kinds of worms as a tonic or purgative and as a mouthwash.
Making tea: Boil 10g of quassia bark in 1lt of water for 15 minutes.Turn off the heat, and let it sit for an hour.
