The original Washington Quarter, designed by John Flanagan, was minted from 1932 to 1998 before the design was modified. Proof Washington Quarters were first struck in 1936. Intended to be a one-year commemorative honoring the 200th anniversary of George Washington’s birth, the Washington Quarter has become one of the most popularly collected series. This specific example was struck at the San Francisco Mint in 1985 and has been graded in Proof 69 Deep Cameo condition. Out of all 1985-S Proof Washington Quarters struck, significantly less than 1% have been graded in PR69DCAM condition. With such a low PR69DCAM population, this coin is considered a Condition Rarity.
