ITEM DESCRIPTION

The Mughal Empire existed from 1526, starting when the first Mughal Emperor defeated the last sultan of the Delhi Sultanate. Under Akbar the Great (1556-1605), the Mughal Empire expanded substantially, and trade with European colonies intensified. Akbar brought the Mughal Empire to the Hight of its reign, and while everything should have continued to grow under his successor, Jahangir (1605–1627), Jahangir neglected his duties, and the Empire began to decline. After 1719, the Empire began breaking up, with vast areas falling to the Maratha Empire or coming under control of the British. In 1857, the last Mughal ruler was deposed by the British, and the remainder of its area fell to the British Raj
