Checkered Handle

Antique Youth Tennis Racquet

c1901 - RARE

This racquet is from Jeanne Cherry’s personal collection.

This racquet has the “Wright & Ditson Boston Mass” early black logo on the throat and the “Wright & Ditson Championship ball with tennis player” early trademark in black on the throat all intact with chips in both.  It has aged varnish for an attractive patina.  A nicely styled “CBM” is incised into the throat just below the ball.

The handle is beautifully checkered on all four faces.

The Solid Convex Wedge is in excellent condition.  

This racquet may have come as part of a family boxed set.

4-inch diameter Checkered Handle with original butt collar.

The frame is straight in very good antique condition; however, there are scuffs, dings and dirt.

The strings are original natural gut with red gut trebling at the top; however, one died main string is broken.

This is an excellent example of a Wright & Ditson early checkered handle Youth Tennis racquet from Jeanne Cherry’s personal collection.
