A Nazar (Turkish: Nazar boncuğu ) is an eye-shaped amulet believed to protect against the evil eye(“evil eye”, from Nazar and “bead” from boncuğu). The word “nazar” is derived from the Arabic نظر, “sight” or “seeing”. It is believed that if your Nazar amulet cracks or breaks, it has done its job of protecting you from some misfortune or bad luck and should be replaced!
