The caption on the back of the photo:
"Russian soldiers in France, 1917"
The Expeditionary Force of the Russian Army in France (Expeditionary Force, Russian Expeditionary Force) is the general name of the expeditionary forces (formations, brigades) of the Russian Imperial Army that participated in the First World War in France on the initiative of the two states within the framework of international assistance and exchange between the Allies in the Entente.
Corps personnel, together with French and British troops, defended the Champagne-Ardenne region. The infantry of the corps near Reims especially distinguished itself, preventing the breakthrough of German divisions in the direction of Paris.
Russian units participated in the Battle of Verdun known as the "Verdun meat grinder".
